What brought you to the Byron community and what do you love about it? My wife and I moved to Byron from Rochester before our oldest started school. We loved the good schools and with both of us coming from smaller towns, we wanted that small town life for our kids. Tell us about your life in Byron, what keeps you busy? With 3 kids all involved in multiple sports and running 2 small businesses, our calendar is full year round. We love watching our kids grow in the Byron community being involved with sports. This is my first year coaching my son's Rookies baseball team. How do you stay connected to your neighbors? Our neighborhood is great for young families. All of our kids play outside together just like we did. If you want to know where they all are, just look for the house with the bikes and scooters. We get together with our neighbors and have dinner, or drinks on the deck, even game nights. It’s been a blessing. Tell us why it’s important to you to support the community and neighbors? We’re all part of this community and I feel it’s our responsibility to take care of it. With that, it means helping out whenever you can, supporting local fundraisers, donating your time. Being a small town, we’re all raising our families together, so being a good neighbor is crucial for our success as parents and community members. Her neighbor describes her as outgoing, kind, inspirational and uplifting “Maggie is a one-of-a-kind person with a heart of gold. She helps out anyone in need and will drop everything to be there for a neighbor. She thinks of her neighbors and does acts of kindness nearly every day. She is a full-time hospice nurse, mom of 2, wife, breast cancer survivor, but she still takes the time out of her day to greet her neighbors, staying active in the community, and trying to make life easier for those around her. Maggie has created several community groups on Facebook, including “Gifting it in Byron, MN” where community members can gift items for other community members. This site has grown immensely and increased community interaction.” Getting to know Maggie, in her own words: What brought you to the Byron community and what do you love about it? We moved to Byron about 9 years ago. We lived in Owatonna for 10 years before that. While in Owatonna I got my first nursing job with Mayo. I did not enjoy all the time I was spending on the road so we started looking to move closer and Byron's reputation for amazing schools was a huge draw! We are so glad we landed here! We love the smalltown feel, the schools, and the community. Tell us about your life in Byron, what keeps you busy? We stay busy with kids, sports, work, and trying to sneak in some travel too. How do you stay connected to your neighbors? I love now that its nice out again. We have such a great neighborhood and everyone is outside. Its fun to take a walk and get to talk to neighbors again! We live in a cul-de-sac so there is always a basketball or hockey game going on and there's been to known to be a bonfire or two too where everyone is always invited. Tell us why it’s important to you to support the community and neighbors? It’s important to me to support my neighbors and my community because it truly takes a village and a stronger community benefits everyone.
